Radical Ideas From 2,000 Years Ago
Dear Foothills Family and Friends,
Jesus was a radical.
His teachings were revolutionary and made people uncomfortable. Traditions were being shattered and the status quo was upended. His thinking was so far out of the box people were trying to find a way to shut him. They did with a cross.
Thankfully, witnesses recorded in writing those teachings leading to Jesus being executed. These words, still radical today, are our guiding light and are shared through the Bible.
This week we are beginning a teaching series: “Jesus’ Radical Sayings.” We will take a closer look at some of Jesus’ most startling teachings.
Please invite anyone you know who might be a bit bored with Christianity as they know it. I believe people want to be challenged with “answers” to their most difficult questions, even when they know that the answers themselves are difficult.
This series is grounded in strong biblical exegesis and a contextual perspective into understanding the matrix in which Jesus lived, ministered, died and was resurrected to new life. In this life-giving series we will look together at Jesus’ invitation to:
Be Anxious for Nothing (Luke 12:22-34).
Sell All Your Things and Give to the Poor (Mark 10:17-31).
Become a Servant (Mark 9:33-37).
Receive the Holy Spirit (John 20:22)
Deny Yourself and Follow Me (Mark 8:34-48)
Not Everyone Enters the Kingdom (Matthew 7:21-23)
Love Your Enemies (Luke 6:27-36)
Our radical teachings of Jesus here at Foothill are attracting new members. Last Sabbath, it was a great joy to welcome eight new members into our Foothills faith family! These are excellent Christians who have wholeheartedly committed their lives to Jesus Christ and are dedicated to the quest of becoming disciples as they walk with Him daily.
We are so blessed that God is bringing new people to join with us at Foothills in the “Joyful Walk with Christ!”
Walking the joyful walk with Christ includes a challenge to grow and become stronger as we take each “faith step” together! This is truly the Good Life!
Much love to you and yours,
DG
