…So He made mothers

An old Jewish saying beautifully describes the role mothers have: God couldn’t be everywhere, so He made mothers.”

My mom is a saint with all she went through to rear the kids in a cash-strapped missionary family in Africa. It was only when I became an adult I realized just how much mothers like mine sacrificed of their own lives for us.

Although Sunday is the one day a year we officially celebrate mothers, we really need to take time in our prayers daily to ask God to bless our mom.

When the Apostle Paul was describing his love for the church at Thessalonica, he used the metaphor of a mother’s love to describe how deeply he cared for the Thessalonians. He reminded them that he was like a “gentle” mother who “tenderly cares for her own children” (1 Thessalonians 2:7).

When God described His love for Israel, He did so with a motherly metaphor. He told Israel He would comfort them like a mother comforts her children (Isaiah 66:13).

This Sabbath as we gather together, we will recognize and celebrate the beautiful, indispensable role that mothers, grandmothers, and all godly women play in God’s creation.

This Mother’s Day, please take the time to thank your mother, and to thank God for all the godly women who show us God’s heart and hands through their sacrificial, protecting, enduring and faithful kindness, healing love and limitless grace!

Happy Mother’s Day, 2022! See you in church at 11 a.m. on Sabbath!
