LET JESUS BE LORD!
Greetings church family!
In Exodus 3, Moses has an encounter with God that would change his life forever. God says to Moses, “Therefore go. I am sending you to Pharaoh so that you may lead my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.” [Exodus 3:10] Moses’ jaw must have dropped, his heart must have sank. “You want me to do what?”, he must have thought. Moses came up with every excuse not to take on the task God called him to - from claiming personal insignificance to pointing out his speaking limitations.
In Judges 6, Gideon has an encounter with God that would also change his life forever. God says to Gideon, “Go in the strength you have and deliver Israel from the grasp of Midian. I am sending you!” Like Moses, Gideon must have been overwhelmed with doubt and timidity in accepting this task. In fact, Gideon pointed out his low status in Hebrews society, and then he repeatedly asked God for signs to confirm that this was a real command from God.
The interesting thing in both cases is that God does not discount Moses’ or Gideon’s assessments. God doesn’t say to Moses, “Actually, you’re a great speaker, Moses.” God doesn’t say to Gideon, “Your family is a very important one, Gideon.” Instead, God just assures them that whatever He asks them to do, He will see them through the accomplishing of the task.
Like Moses and Gideon, all of us have insecurities. Our insecurities tend to arise because we are focused on what we don’t have or what we cannot do. However, l like Moses and Gideon, all of us also have a choice - make our insecurities our idol, or let Jesus be Lord. If we let Jesus be Lord, what we will discover is God will provide what we don’t have, and God will empower us to do what we thought we couldn’t.
Take a moment right now, and consider where Moses, Gideon, and the Israelites would be if these two men clung to their insecurities. Take a moment, right now, and consider the blessings awaiting you and the people God has called you to impact if you would let Jesus be Lord.
Isaiah 41:10 - Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand.
Church family, be assured, God is for you, God is with you, and God loves you!
