NEVER ABANDONED
Greetings church family!
If I’m being honest, there are some things about growing older that are just not my favorite. It feels like I discover new pains and soreness in my body each week. When I walk into a room searching for something, I forget why I came to the room in the first place. I don’t get to be around my kids as often as I used to. Growing old sometimes makes me miss my younger years.
However, there is one thing I definitely prefer about being older vs. being younger, and this is the wisdom and experience I’ve gained in life. In fact, I think about what wisdom I would share with my younger self if I could go back in time and meet my younger self.
What nuggets of wisdom would you share with your younger self if you had the opportunity? Maybe you would advise your younger self to take risks and go on more adventures. Life is too short to play it safe all of the time. Or, maybe you would tell your younger self to go for a different career, or avoid dating that one person with whom things just didn’t work out? Some people might tell their younger self to cherish relationships more rather than focus so much on achievements and/or material possessions.
I was reading Psalm 37 this morning and I ran across David’s words in verses 25-26. “I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous abandoned or his children begging for bread. He is always generous, always lending, and his children are a blessing.”
Take time today to review your life and note how God was with you every step of the way. The big job promotion, your first break-up, the birth of your children, the loss of a loved one - take time to recall the mountaintop and valley moments of your life. I believe you’ll discover the same as David, that you’ve never gone a moment where God has abandoned you.
That’s because God is for you, God is with you, and God loves you!
Blessings!
