He IS The Great Savior!
Jesus is not an angel, he is God. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God: (John 1:1).
In Hebrews 1 we are told Jesus Christ upholds the universe by the word of his power, that he is the heir of all things, and the exact representation of the Father who makes purification for sins, and sits down at the right hand of the Majesty on High.
Psalm 8:1-5 proclaims:
”O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger. When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor."
In this Advent season, we should be stunned by the Son of God!
Let us not neglect the great salvation Christ brings!
Hebrews 2:3 says:
"Don't neglect such a great salvation."
Every church has seasons when there is the danger of "drift." The way drifting works is things start to become ho-hum at church. We lose focus and allow ourselves to be distracted by many things. Devotion to Christ becomes ho-hum. The Christian life is not purposeful or intentional—it’s not vigilant—there’s just a sense that it's okay to float for a while.
The warning is when we and our church begin to drift and float along, we will go downstream rather than continue upwards toward God's higher calling and richer favor in our lives. The church family at Foothills is a congregation that is not drifting. In fact, every week I see our members who are passionate in their love and appreciation of their salvation as Christians!
"How shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation?" Don't play games or neglect you relationship with God and the church--be serious about this great salvation!
Be spiritually passionate for God who moves into brokenness, into suffering, into the dying of the world, and right here lives it out with us. And then he dies and conquers it, and he's crowned with glory and honor as our forerunner, our founder, our representative, and he brings us with him through death to glory and honor!
Salvation is a Christmas gift for everyone who wants it! Learn how to strengthen your bond with God during this special season by joining us at our Christmas Eve service at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
If you haven’t attended a service in person in a while, this is the one to attend. It will be a celebration of the birth of our Savior and your church family will welcome you home!
Your pastor,
