Can Anything Good Come?

Greetings church family!

When we think of Bible stories, we (I know I do) tend to usually think of stories of Biblical leaders and what we can learn from them.  But the Bible is supposed to tell us, first and foremost, about God and His desire for a relationship with us. And to be completely honest, how many of us will ever be a Daniel, a Moses, a Joseph or even a Haggai? On the other hand, most of us would not choose to identify with Eli’s sons, Hophni and Phineas either. Yet they were also part of God’s chosen people.

In Psalms 94:14 we read “For the LORD will not reject His people; He will never forsake His inheritance.”  We may reject God, (and Hophni and Phineas clearly did) but He will never reject us.

This Sabbath we’ll look at how God interacted with a man who holds the dubious distinction in the Bible of being the standard by which all other evil kings were judged, Ahab.  Ahab?  Or, to borrow from the disciple Nathaniel, “Can anything good come out of Ahab?”

We may think of Ahab as just a foil for Elijah but there are almost as many (maybe even more) verses about Ahab in the Old Testament then there are about Elijah.  To use a publishing term, why would such an evil king get so many column inches?

As we study together this Sabbath, maybe we can shed some light on that question. I know I’m looking forward to it.

Have a blessed week,

Lon
